Aloe vera was known as the 'plant of immortality' in ancient Egypt

What is aloe vera?

Originally from the Arabian Peninsula, aloe vera is actually a herb that grows wild in tropical climates around the world. It is well-known for its moisturising and soothing properties, making it a natural choice for botanical beauty products.

In fact, aloe vera has been used in beauty products for more than five thousand years. Egyptians were among the first to use aloe vera, calling it the ‘plant of immortality’, because it can live and bloom without soil. It’s even believed that Cleopatra used aloe vera in her daily beauty routine. Aloe vera wasn’t only used in ancient Egypt. Native Americans used aloe vera as well, referring to it as ‘the wand of heaven’. Mahatma Gandhi was also a well-known aloe vera fan! If you’re an aloe fan, you’re in good company.

Aloe vera leaves are full of a gel-like substance, which contains most of the plant’s bioactive compounds, such as vitamins, antioxidants, minerals and amino acids. With all of these natural components, aloe vera is traditionally used for burns and wounds.

Our supplier uses a patented process to extract the aloe vera gel from the plants, which allows a high level of polysaccharides in our aloe; polysaccharides are sugar molecules and store energy in plants. This process results in only high-quality aloe vera – plant power in your shower.

Where does aloe vera come from?

Originally from the Arabian Peninsula, aloe vera is now grown in tropical climates worldwide. It can be found in the USA, Latin America, Australia, Africa, the Caribbean, India and in Southern Europe. It cannot survive in freezing temperatures, so the coldest European countries were the last to discover the natural benefits of aloe vera.

Our aloe vera is sustainably sourced from a farm in Tamaulipas, Mexico. Our supplier uses certified sustainable farming practices: all aloe leaves are hand-picked, and the farmers only remove two to three leaves per plant at one time. There is 6x more* aloe in our aloe and eucalpytus collection!
