Using re-cycled plastic for a cleaner world

We believe in the positive power of nature through real botanicals, real people, and real impact on the planet.

That's why we've made the shampoo bottles in our [potent Aloe collection](/en/potent-aloe-vera-collection/) recyclable and made up of 25% recycled plastics. By launching this initiative we are aiming to save almost 27 tonnes of plastic!

Renewable Energy

In 2016, we began purchasing certified renewable electricity credits, which come from windmills, for our Blois factory.

This ensures that more renewable energy is added to the electricity grid, displacing conventional fuels like coal, nuclear or natural gas from the electricity system. Since 2010, our Herbal Essences manufacturing sites around the world have reduced our total absolute energy by about 9%, and total absolute gas emissions by more than 15%. We are doing more so we can lessen our impact on the environment.

Reduce manufacturing waste

Our Herbal Essences Sustainability Program is working hard to eliminate waste at our manufacturing sites. How?

Our Iowa City Beauty Care facility is certified Zero Manufacturing Waste to Landfill. Let’s break that down: This means through composting, recycling, and energy recovery programs, our products and waste are diverted from landfills.

Water reduction

Around the world the Herbal Essences manufacturing sites are 100% Zero Waste to Landfill.

Our European manufacturing site located in Blois, France achieved 100% renewable energy and a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas and is close to reaching the 35% increase in water efficiency goal.
